Mesothelioma - Personal Injury Compensation Claims with clickandclaim's Personal Injury Solicitors

What is mesothelioma?

Malignant mesothelioma is a form of cancer that begins in the mesothelium. This is the membrane that covers and protects most of the body’s internal organs. The mesothelium is made up of two layers, one which surrounds the organ itself, and the other which forms a sac lining around it. A small amount of fluid is normally produced between these two layers, lubricating the movement of the protected organs. When the normal cells of the mesothelium become out of control and spread rapidly, mesothelioma occurs.

Types of Mesothelioma

- Pleural Mesothelioma

The most common form of mesothelioma which occurs in the lining of the lung.

- Peritoneal Mesothelioma

This affects the lining of the abdominal cavity.

- Pericardial Mesothelioma

This affects the lining of the heart.

The Causes of Mesothelioma:

Mesothelioma is almost always caused by exposure to asbestos. Exposure to asbestos occurred alot in the army, and also in construction as asbestos can be found in old roofs. However, the danger is that Mesothelioma does not show up until 20 - 50 years after the exposure.

In the year 2002, there were 1862 cases of Mesothelioma reported.
